Soil Association certified organic henna poSoil Association certified productwder and indigo powder from India with no other plants added.  This henna and indigo can be combined to make a brown/red, brown or black shade.

The henna and indigo are separately packed in vacuum sealed plastic bag so that they stay fresh.

This henna is suitable for hair colouring. When used on its own it gives orange/red tone but when combined with indigo it gives a variety of shades.

The indigo (indigofera tinctoria) is a blue/green tint and is best used together with or just after henna.

Combining Henna with Indigo to get a red/brown, brown or a black shade

When henna is used with indigo it can give shades of different browns to black. The resulting colour depends on which method you use, how long you leave the dye on for, and the proportion of henna and indigo you use.

Method 1 (double application): Dye your hair first with henna so it goes auburn/red, then dye your hair with indigo, so that the auburn/red turns to brown. To achieve the desired shade, you need to make sure you leave the indigo on for the right amount of time. The longer the indigo is left on for, the darker it will be. If you leave it for the maximum time it can go black.

Method 2 (single application): Soak the henna in some acidic liquid such as lemon juice. When you are ready to colour your hair mix the indigo with water, then thoroughly mix the henna mixture together with the indigo mixture. To get a more reddish-brown shade, use a large percentage of henna. To get a darker brown, use a larger proportion of indigo. To get a black shade use Method 1.

Everyone’s hair is different and will take the colour differently, so some trial and error may be necessary to get the desired shade.

How much henna and indigo do you need
The amounts given below are for average hair - if you have fine hair you may need less, or if you have thick hair you may need more. The amounts given are for the total amount of powder needed for one application.
short / chin length hair - 50 to 70 gms per application
shoulder length hair - 100 to 120 gms per application
mid back length hair - 200 to 250 gms per application

If you are mixing henna and indigo in one single application (Method 2), the combined weight of the two powders should be what is given in the above guidlines.

Everyone's hair is different so it is good to experiment to find the best method for your hair.

So much better than my previous henna exerience
Tuesday, 28 January 2020  |  Frances

I have used Lush henna blocks for several years and been mostly happy with the results but recently the colour didn’t seem to fix and my hair started to feel really waxy after applying. Decided to try henna and indigo powders and create my own mix/ratio. What a difference. Much less messy to prepare and apply. Amazing results with great coverage of greys. It was easy to rinse out and my hair felt amazing afterwards and was really shiny. I used the all in one method with a 40/60 mix of henna to indigo. The colour has fixed well. I will be ordering again and again. Wish I’d switched much sooner.

Love this natural hair dye and great to find it without chemicals added. You can also mix your own colour. Great product would definitely recommend it and the company. Thanks for providing a natural alternative to hair and body care with minimal packaging.

Lovely rich henna
Monday, 9 December 2019  |  Jo

I wish I’d known how good henna could be years ago, then I wouldn’t have spent all that money on nasty chemical colours. This one is rich and vibrant and colours my grey perfectly. My hair has never looked so shiny and healthy.

WOW!!!!
Wednesday, 20 November 2019  |  Gabi

Yes,WOW, is what I have to say, so I've used other brands of henna only about 5 times in the past, and every time literally no change to my hair. Why? I dont know! So I vowed I would never use henna again, the pain of applying it and washing out the gritty mess, it was unbearable, I decided id just have to embrace the greys =(. as I didn't want to use chemical dyes on my hair anymore. Anyway I stumbled upon survana, and after reading the henna reviews I thought ok, one more try! and WOW the results are amazing!!!! stunning! I applied using a third of apple cider vinegar and leaving for 24 hours, the paste was much smoother than id experienced with previous hennas and washing it out was fairly easy, no grittyness at all, sooooo I am converted and will definitely be purchasing this henna again and again and again.thank you xx

Excellent products
Thursday, 11 April 2019  |  Anne

I use 70% henna 30% indigo, my hair is naturally grey now at age 59. I leave the mixture in a warm place overnight covered with foil before leaving on my hair for one hour. Application can be quite messy but the mixture does not stain bathroom. The colour is quite bright on me but I have received many compliments. I am so pleased to have found a totally natural product.

The only healthy hair coloring option for me
Tuesday, 1 January 2019  |  Ivona

I've been bleaching my hair since I was a teenager. I got tired of this as my hair was just not what it used to be plus I needed to tone it all the time because it was yellow and not blonde. In my first batch I ordered cassia and henna which ended too orangey on my bleached hair. Next batch was cassia, henna and indigo. Next time I'm going to use henna and indigo (50:50).i think that will be the winning combination. I'm quite pleased as it is with 1/3 of cassia, 1/3 henna, 1/3 indigo. But I want o get it a bit darker so will do the third combo this weekend probably.

Highly effective and easy to use
Saturday, 4 August 2018  |  FSR

Using the 2 step process to cover white hair which I have had since a teenager - I was really desperate to move away from box dyes especially re dark colours. I added lemon and coffee to the henna when prepping it and salt to the indigo. It is very effective and works out to be cost efficient too. The dyes are VERY powerful so I didn't need the whole packet of either. Also - mega bonus - they did not stain the bathtub! Other henna/indigo products have and were really hard to clean up. Basically - I am really pleased with the quality and the very helpful instructions included. I will certainly return for future purchases.
