This 110g pack of hair colour powder is enough for average shoulder length hair. If your hair is thick you will need more, or if it’s fine or layered you’ll need less.

Full instructions, latex gloves and cap are included in the packet.

The likely colour outcome on different hair colours
The resulting colour outcome after using this hair colour does depend on the colour of your hair before using it.

If your hair is very light coloured grey or white it may be more of a light brown with one application but you can build up the colour with a second application.

If you’re your hair is light or medium brown then it will result in a dark brown.

If your hair is already dark brown then it will darken it to an even darker brown.

If your hair is a salt-and-pepper mix of brown and white, then you will get an average effect, with the white hair going lighter brown and the dark hair going darker brown.

Although we do our best to formulate this hair dye so that you get a good colour, we cannot guarantee the precise colour outcome. This is because everyone’s hair is different, both in terms of the initial hair colour and different hair chemistry, and will take the colour slightly differently.

The true colour takes a few hours to develop
When you first wash out the colour it will often not be the full depth of colour but it will gradually darken to its true colour

If you have used henna and indigo before you will understand that after washing it off your hair it takes time for the colour to oxidise on your hair.  It can be likened to a cut apple - at first it the apple is white and then as it oxidises in the air it goes brown.

If the you have a lot of grey hair and it appears to be have a green tinge at first, don’t worry - this will fade gradually over a few hours or days, as the dye oxidises and the colour darkens.

Instructions
The full instructions and tips are enclosed in the packet the following is an overview:

Mix the powder with warm water to a smooth paste that is the consistency of yogurt. Mix very well so that there are no lumps in the paste. Paste on to your hair in sections and leave on for 1.5 to 3 hours.  The longer you leave it the darker the colour will be.

Strand Testing
If it is the first time you have used this hair colour we strongly recommend doing a strand test first before putting the dye all over your hair, because the colour can be different on different people’s hair. If you do not like the colour it could be very difficult if not impossible to remove the colour. We also recommend waiting 24 hours after the strand test to see how the colour develops, because the colour oxidises over time and darkens.

It is not advisable to lighten your hair with chemical bleach after using this hair colour.

Organic Indigo tinctoria (indigo) powder, organic lawsonia inermis (henna) powder, organic cassia auriculata powder, organic embelica officinalis (amla) powder.

Something very wrong with the one I was sent

I previously used Natural Brown which has been perfect but I noticed a red tone building up in the lighter areas and roots. So I ordered a Dark Brown tester and mixed it with Cassia to lighten it as per the instructions on the website. I was so pleased with the colour that I ordered the large pack.. However, having duplicated exactly what I did before I was horrified to find my hair had turned a very dark green!! I washed a lot and waited 72 hours but no change. I emailed Suvarna but they referred me to the internet. Having researched online, I bought a red tone shampoo and fortunately my hair soon turned a nice warm brown colour. Few week later, I needed to cover the roots so I duplicated the mix of Dark Brown and CassiaI but was horrified when I washed it out that I had ended up with big blue/black patches all over the top of my head! These have not faded or washed out and I am now stuck with awful dark patches all over which I cannot cover, will not fade and will have to eventually grow out. To add to that I now have to refresh the roots but I am stuck as to what I can possibly use. I previously wrote a review on this website saying that I thought I had been sent a faulty batch but that review seems to have disappeared along with all the other reviews including another 1 star review from someone else who had been sent a bad batch. The box I received was of the new design as depicted here and I am very disappointed at the lack of interest from Suvarna.

Hello L,

I'm sorry to hear you had an unpredictable colour outcome from using the Dark Brown. We advise everyone to do a strand test before application to make sure you get the best colour for you.

It's really unusual for us to hear of someone who has had a blue/black colour - particularly using a mix of Dark Brown and Cassia on your hair.

From looking back through our emails with you, you had emailed about the green tinge but advised using a red toned shampoo had helped with this; we didn't have any emails with you regarding a blue-black colour.

We do always advise using a red tone dye or shampoo over the top of hair if it has gone a blue/green tinge as it suggests the Indigo in the dye has taken more strongly to the hair than the Henna, and a red toned shampoo or dye would help to colour correct.

Please do get in contact again if you need any more advice - our experts are always happy to help!

It's Pure

After emailing Tricia yonks ago, I finally got round to following the brilliant advice given. I'm so very pleased with the results of mixing 3 parts dark brown & 1 part chestnut on my over-stressed chemically dyed hair. I've only used the mix once - but already have an inkling of how healthy & shiny my hair has the potential to be.The advice, products, & service you provide are smashing. Thankyou!

Very Disapointed

Id been looking for a more natural hair colour, so I gave this one a try, followed instructions, doing hair in segments, and finally left for the required time for the darkest result. Washing the product out wasnt easy, once out it left my har dry and matted. It took a while to remove matts and has damaged my hair, also the product didnt cover all the grey at the roots! I will continue my search for a natural hair colour, unfortunately this wasnt it!

Impressed

A mixture I received is of the highest quality, blends in to a smooth and creamy texture, and makes it easy to apply. It covers my mostly grey hair nicely. As a henna user with more than 20 years experience I highly recommend this.
