Natural Colour Shampoo Whether you use a natural hair dye like Henna, or a traditional box dye, it is important to protect your hair colour with natural, non-detergent based shampoos and conditioners. Dyed hair can be more porous and absorbs more of the ingredients in your shampoo, which can lead to dryness or losing colour very rapidly, if the cuticles aren’t sealed. SLES based shampoos have more harsh detergents which pull the colour molecules from the hair-shaft and fade colours faster. Natural colour shampoos however add gentle, organic ingredients into the hair, protecting and sealing the hair shaft to protect your colour for much longer. Key ingredients for you to look for are those with anti-oxidant properties, which clarify the hair and help your natural tones and highlights to shine through. Intense moisturising oils like argan, wheat protein and extracts of rapeseed all help to add shine and depth to your colour long-term. Herbal extracts can add an additional hue to both dyed and natural shampoos. For RED tones choose Henna extracts For BLONDE tones choose Chamomile extracts For DARK tones choose Hazelnut extracts It also helps to wash in cool, not hot water. Try washing your hair less, and keep styling products to a minimum. If you’re going swimming always wear a cap, as chlorine fades darker turns and adds green lights to lighter hair. And, if you’re out in the sun for any length of time, either wear a hat, or coat your hair in a deep conditioner and slick it back to protect the length from colour and condition damaging UV rays.
