I just wanted to cover grey strands amongst my black hair, not change my overall hair colour. I have never used henna dye or any hair colourant before. Instructions for mixing the powder were easy to follow as was application, gloves and plastic cap are provided in the pack. I left the mixture on my hair for 4 hours. My greys were covered, not a very dark brown colour but reddish, which gave my hair a highlighted effect. The rest of my hair being black did not change of course, I am happy with the result for a first use. I understand that continued use may increase the depth of dark brown colour on my greys, and if I want I can then use a black henna dye to get it all black, as the advice is that if you use black as a first step you will probably turn grey or white hairs blue due to the high indigo content in black henna, so I needed to use the very dark brown initially. I will see and possibly update later.
Being unable to use conventional hair dyes due to allergy/sensitivity, this product is a god send. This covers grey well and the colour result is lovely as itís tonal depending on the colour of each strand of hair to begin with. Yes it is a pain to have to keep it on for 4 hours each time you do it (about every 5 weeks), and it has quite an unusual smell, but thatís a small price to pay in my opinion. Delivery on this was quick and the price good.
I have been using normal dye without ammonia for years. I then developed a reaction to PPD. I was very upset as I tried other products that said they were natural and were not!! I then came across this product it is excellent have not had no itchiness on scalp. I do have to keep it on for 4 hours to get the best result. The very dark brown does cover my greys. It does take a bit getting use to but worth the effort!!
Thought I'd try the dark brown on my sisters hair as she is having treatment at the mo and can't use chemical colourants. Put it on the roots disappointing coverage. And a horrid green tinge. Never in my 40 yrs hairdressing have I come across this. Not at all impressed.
Oh dear, don't worry, the green tinge should go gradually over a day or two as it oxidises (as it says in the instructions). The darker colours have a higher indigo content and this is what gives a risk of it having green tinge at first, but indigo doesnt stay green. Even if the green didnt go then you could always put another herbal colour on top with more red/henna in it. Generally for stronger grey coverage you leave the paste on for a longer time or do a 2nd application. You would not normally have this experience with chemical dyes as they work differently and are more controllable.

I've been using this product for some time due to an allergic reaction to normal hair coulrants. I have to use the product twice to get the darker shade, but I'm very grey. It can be a bit time consuming, but the end result is worth it.
HI all. I am highly allergic to PPD's and found this out 10yrs ago. My head swelled up, I had weeping blisters on my forehead, my ears. Lumps in my neck. It was bad. I tried many natural hair dyes and unfortunately they washed down the drain pretty quick. I then used Lush Caca Noire henna and I cannot say this did not work because it did. However, the leave in time was minimum 4hrs and it came in a block of 6 segments. I had to take various kitchen knives to break off two pieces and then double zip lock in a bag and bash on my kitchen floor with a rolling pin. I was exhausted after then mixing it without knowing exact amount of water. and often making too runny. Anyhow, this product had the water measurements and the power mixed up beautifully without me getting cramp in my hand trying to crush lumps. I managed to get it on my hair without it going cold and the shower cap was much better than clingfilm which gave me a headache after 4hrs. I got the coverage I wanted. Perhaps more black than I wanted but I'm going to apply the red henna next time, and alternate, so I hopefully get back the reddish highlights which I got from the Caca Noire. Fingers crossed. I'm really pleased to have discovered this.
If it was too dark perhaps try the dark brown on the roots next time. Or if that is still too dark the natural brown. It may also lighten up a bit after a few washes. Be careful of applying successive applications on top of each other as the colour then build up too dark.
