Most of us enjoy sitting in the sunshine, and indeed, some sunlight is good for us. We need a few rays on our skin to get enough Vitamin D, and keep our bones healthy. Being out in the sun can be relaxing, too, and really uplifting.
But, as we all know only too well when it comes to sunshine, you can have too much of a good thing. If you are going out in the sun when it’s too hot, for too long, too often, and without the right protection, it can seriously damage your skin.
Of course you've heard it all before - but I bet you get tempted anyway! Here is a little reminder, for those moments when you don't want to bother with sun lotion, of why it’s definitely worth spending a couple of extra minutes rubbing on some sunscreen...
1. The immediate effect we all know and dread, sunburn - painful red skin and even peeling. (If you know that you’re prone to burning, don’t wait until it happens to stock up on after sun!)
2. Skin blemishes such as age spots - these build up over time. You won’t see them right away, but it’s worth protecting against getting them in the future.
3. In the extreme, excessive unprotected exposure to the sun can contribute to skin cancer.
4. Skin that’s had too much sun is prone to premature ageing, due to collagen reduction which causes sagging and wrinkles.
...so treat your skin right, and cover up with a nice, natural sunscreen. The only question left is, which one to choose?
The Environmental Working Group recommends avoiding chemical sunscreens, particularly those containing oxybenzone, a chemical that may disrupt hormones. So instead of these, choose something that has been certified as being natural, like the ones we have at Suvarna.
We have sunscreens from Green People and Lavera that really cover every need, from hand-bag-size mini tubes at 50ml, to family size sprays or lotions. Some are scented and some are unscented, some are for kids and some are for sensitive skin... look at the whole range to find the perfect, and always all-natural, sunscreen for you.
We also have natural self-tan, if you feel like cheating... or after sun to replenish moisture after sunbathing - there's even one that shimmers!
If it's too late for sunscreen and you've burnt, get your hands on some Pure Organic Aloe Vera Gel from Aubrey Organics - it's the best burn remedy.
