MAKEUP TIPS

Eye Makeup

Eye makeup has been enhancing beautiful eyes since ancient times. Cleopatra was famous for her glamorous eyes and more recent beauties such as Sophia Loren and Twiggy.

The purpose of eye makeup is:

  • To accentuate the colour of your eyes
  • To enhance the shape of your eyes through contouring
  • To focus attention on your eyes by giving them definition

To accomplish this eye makeup includes eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara and eyebrow pencil.

Eyeliners and Pencils
Eyeliners and pencils are used for definition. They make your eyes stand out and helps to make your eyelashes appear thicker.  It is better to choose a shade which is similar to the intensity of your hair and eye colour. For example if you are a fair skinned blonde and a cool (summer) shade it is better to pick a lighter cool shade such as Logona Anthracite liquid Eyeliner, Sante Silver Dip Eyeliner

Eyeshadows
Eyeshadows enhance the colour and shape of your eyes making them seem larger and more expressive.  A highlighter eyeshadow is used to lighten and bring out areas on your eyes. A contour shade is used to recess areas.

For everyday look use fairly neutral colours that flatter your eye colour.  These will go with everything you wear.  Then you can add shades which blend with colours in your wardrobe. However don’t add a colour just to go with your clothes which doesn’t flatter your eyes.

The intensity of your eyeshadow colour should be based on your colouring. You don’t want a bright colour on a fair skinned colouring or to subtle colour that disappears on dark skinned dark haired woman.

Mascaras
Mascaras colour, thicken and lengthen your lashes.  Organic mascaras will never thicken and lengthen your lashes as well as chemical based mascaras.  Fair skinned – blue eyed blondes suit a lighter colour such as Logona anthracite mascara.  For darker colouring Winter or Autumn use the black Lavera, Logona or Sante.

Eye Brow Pencils
Eye brow pencils are useful for filling in bare spots or lengthening your brows. Choose one that closely matches your brows and blends with your hair colour.

The Logona eye brow pencil is the darkest brown eyebrow pencil we sell.  The Sante 02 brown is a slightly lighter brown than the Logona. So if you want as dark as possible brown go for the Logona brow pencil.  Sante also do a blonde 01 eye brow pencil which is great for fair hair and fair skin.

Makeup Colour Palettes - Picking the Right Colours

Choosing the right makeup colour is very important as the wrong colour on your face can look worse than no makeup at all.

A system of colour analysis such as “Colour Me Beautiful” analyses your colouring according to different colour palettes called winter, summer, autumn or spring. Each season’s palette contains its own special colours and your colour is in harmony with one of them. Which one suits you is dependant on the colour of your skin hair and eyes.

You may already know which colours suit you.  Otherwise a consultation with a colour consultant will determine which colour palette suit you. You can also buy book on it or work it out for your self from the descriptions below.

Winter and Summer are cool seasons. Cool shades have blue or grey undertones. They include shades such as rose, fuchia, plum, or grey blues. Pinks and reds are bluish rather than orangey.  Browns are greyish rather than orangy. There are no orange, peach or golden tones in the cool palettes.

Autumn and Spring are warm seasons. Warm shades have a yellow or golden undertone.  The reds have an orange tone and the pinks have a peachy or have a yellow undertone. Browns are orangey or coppery, blues and greens are warm. There are no bluish undertones in the warm palette.

Winter women look best in makeup of sparkling reds and pinks, with cool eye shadows in charcoal, blues and purples

Summer women look best in gentle pinks mauves and watermelons, with eye shadows in muted grape, aqua and azure.

Autumns suit rich warm tones coppery reds, tawny peach and earthy shades of green, brown and teal.

Spring women suits warm pinks, peaches, poppy reds, periwinkle blue, coral and fresh greens.
